A 23-year-old man died Wednesday afternoon in a single-vehicle wreck on Texas 161 in north Grand Prairie, police said.

The man’s name was not available Wednesday evening because his family had not been notified, said Sgt. Eric Hansen, supervisor of the Grand Prairie Police Department’s traffic section.

The wreck was reported about 1 p.m. on Texas 161, also called the President George Bush Turnpike, near its intersection with Egyptian Way.

A 2000 Honda CRV was northbound on the frontage road “when the driver lost control,” Hansen said.

“The vehicle left the roadway, traveled down a grassy embankment and then flipped over a retaining wall and onto the northbound lanes of the President George Bush Turnpike,” Hansen said.

The CRV landed on its roof, Hansen said, and the driver died at the scene.

He was the only person in the CRV, and no other vehicles were involved, Hansen said.

He said it is the 18th traffic death in Grand Prairie this year.
