The Arlington Martin football team was forced to vacate three district wins Wednesday after a player was ruled ineligible by the District 3-5A Executive Committee.

Martin’s district wins over Weatherford, Fort Worth Paschal and North Crowley were forfeited as a result of the committee ruling, taking the Warriors from 4-1 in District 3-5A to 1-4 and dropping their overall record to 3-5.

Martin coach Bob Wager said the decision would be appealed to the UIL State Executive Committee as soon as possible.

The player had transferred from Arlington High to Arlington Martin after the start of classes in August.

Wager and Arlington coach Scott Peach were reprimanded by the committee for improper handling of the player’s transfer paperwork, called a Previous Athletic Participation Form.

“We have a clean Previous Athletic Participation Form — a clean, approved Previous Athletic Participation Form,” Wager said after the meeting, which was held at Martin.

Wager is in his eighth season at the helm of the Warriors and has led Martin to the playoffs in all seven previous seasons.

Should the committee’s decision be upheld by the UIL, Martin must win its final two games — against Arlington Sam Houston and Arlington Bowie — and rely on 3-5A tiebreaker procedures to make the 2013 playoffs.

Martin plays Sam Houston at 7 p.m. Thursday at Wilemon Field in Arlington.

“I know we’ll play our tails off,” Wager said.
