A man was shot on the west side of Fort Worth and taken to the hospital in critical condition late Wednesday afternoon, officials said.

The shooting was reported at about 3:50 p.m. near a convenience store in the 8600 block of Calmont Avenue, near the intersection of Las Vegas Trail, police said.

Matt Zavadsky, a MedStar spokesman, said a 19-year-old man was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital in Fort Worth. The man had a gunshot wound to the stomach, and he was transported in critical condition, Zavadsky said.

Investigators learned that two men were “waiting near the store” and they “followed the victim to the alley where he was shot,” said Officer Sharron Neal, a police spokeswoman.

A motive for the shooting was not available Wednesday evening. Police were looking for the two men, but no arrests were reported by late Wednesday.
