A man was stabbed to death in a fight early Sunday at a west Fort Worth apartment, police said.

Mark Barbier, 40, of Fort Worth was pronounced dead outside a building at the Park Side Apartments about 3:05 a.m. Sunday, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office said in a news release.

Police responded to a stabbing call about 2:50 a.m. Sunday in the 3100 block of Sappington Place. They found Barbier on a stairway landing outside his apartment, the police report said.

Medical personnel arrived but could not save him, the report said. Investigators found a suspect, but he was released from custody pending further investigation, said officer Daniel Segura, a police spokesman.

The investigation revealed that Barbier approached the suspect and words were exchanged, Segura said. Barbier was stabbed and killed during the fight that ensued, according to police reports.

Police released no additional details.
