Trophy Club Nelson used a balanced approach to steamroll White Settlement Brewer 50-0 on Friday night at Northwest ISD Stadium in a District 5-4A game.

It took Nelson (6-2, 3-2) two offensive series before it put it all together and scored on three consecutive possessions. The Bobcats added a 34-yard fumble return for a touchdown by Nick Conn and a safety by Navajo Smith for a 36-0 halftime lead.

Nelson was led by Courtney Miles, who scored twice and rushed for 158 yards on 16 carries. Bobcats quarterback Preston Haire also scored twice on the ground and was effective when needed through the air, completing 12 of 23 passes for 145 yards and a touchdown. Jordan Diamond caught the 13-yard touchdown pass for the Bobcats.

Brewer’s Keric Burleson was close to breaking several runs for big yards but could never turn his carries into breakaways. He consistently bounced to the outside but was corralled by the quick Nelson defense. Burleson finished with 101 yards rushing.

Brewer (3-5, 0-5) also hurt its chances to sustain drives with four fumbles.

Jordan Ortiz finished the scoring when he ran in from 6 yards out for Nelson in the fourth quarter.
