NORTH RICHLAND HILLS — Xavier Turner turned in a grand senior night performance, rushing for 230 yards and seven touchdowns to help Birdville cruise to a comfortable 64-30 win over Saginaw Chisholm Trail on Friday night at the Birdville Fine Arts/Athletics Complex.
The senior running back couldn’t be stopped as he helped the Hawks (7-2, 5-2) clinch at least fourth place and a playoff berth in District 6-4A.
Turner needed only 17 carries to make the difference in the game.
The Hawks racked up 653 yards of offense against the Rangers (2-6, 2-4) and only punted once. They jumped ahead 35-0 before Chisholm Trail even sniffed the red zone.
After an interception of Will Hayward to begin the second half, Chisholm Trail finally came alive. The Rangers put together a strong drive, moving 81 yards on seven plays, capped by a 43-yard touchdown strike from Shawn Robinson to Tukayus Powell to get them in the end zone for the first of their three touchdown connections.
But Friday was all about Turner, who notched his 38th touchdown of the season and put the Hawks back in the playoffs.
