WAXAHACHIE — Sophomore running back Duke Carter bulled over from the 1-yard line with 39 seconds remaining to propel Mansfield Lake Ridge to its first District 15-4A win, 38-35 Friday night over Waxahachie at Lumpkins Stadium.
In only its second season, Lake Ridge (2-6, 1-4 in 15-4A) recorded the school’s inaugural district win over one of the old storied programs in Texas.
Waxahachie (1-6, 0-5) had regained the lead for the first time since early in the first quarter when running back Isiah Parrish broke loose on an 85-yard run to the end zone. The score gave the home team Indians a 35-31 advantage with just over a minute to play.
But the Eagles of Lake Ridge responded when quarterback Jett Duffey, who hit 11 of 21 passes for 285 yards and two touchdowns, scrambled to the 5, setting up the winning score.
