That undefeated Granbury did not take two-win Fort Worth Trimble Tech for granted Friday night became apparent on the first play from scrimmage when Malik Allen’s halfback pass found Skylar Baskin for a 54-yard touchdown.

The Pirates (8-0, 5-0 District 7-4A) scored the game’s first 28 points and their 35-12 victory at Farrington Field clinched a playoff berth.

Allen, a transfer from Trimble Tech, also ran for a touchdown against his former team. The TD came with 6:31 left in the second quarter on the first carry of the game for the Pirates’ leading rusher. Granbury’s offense spent the first quarter in a five-receiver set and did much of their damage through the air.

The victory sets up a game bigger than any in recent memory for Granbury when the Pirates travel to Aledo on Friday to face the top-ranked Bearcats in a battle of unbeaten teams.

Leading 35-6 at the half, Granbury started the third quarter with a host of backups. Trimble Tech (2-6, 1-4) scored the game’s only second-half points on a Daylon Tarkington touchdown late in the fourth quarter.

Tarkington gained 81 yards rushing on 29 carries and scored both Trimble Tech touchdowns.

Granbury quarterback Ryan Suitt completed 12 passes for 211 yards and three touchdowns in the first half.
