TCU quarterback Casey Pachall will be available Saturday against Texas, coach Gary Patterson said.

Pachall has been out since Sept. 7 after breaking his left (non-throwing) arm in the Horned Frogs’ second game of the season.

The senior has been out of a cast for a month and has been working as TCU’s scout-team quarterback in recent weeks.

His availability comes a week earlier than originally thought.

Pachall broke his left arm in three places just before halftime against Southeastern Louisiana and was expected to be out for eight weeks.

For the past month he has been seen throwing on the field before games alongside the other quarterbacks, including Trevone Boykin, who has started in Pachall’s absence.

Texas coaches and players acknowledged earlier this week they have prepared for both Boykin and Pachall, just in case Pachall was cleared to play.

Texas coach Mack Brown said it changes the Longhorns’ game plan if Pachall is under center.

“It does. Because they’re different, it makes it more difficult to prepare for because you’re going to have more options, quarterback draws and runs with one [Boykin] than you would with Tyler Matthews or Casey Pachall coming off of an injury,” Brown said. “It is more difficult for the unknown.”

The TCU offense has struggled to move the ball and score points for much of the past two seasons when Pachall has been sidelined. Boykin has taken nearly all the snaps since Pachall’s injury, but Matthews replaced Boykin for a couple of first-half series against OSU last week after Boykin threw his second interception of the game.

The Frogs rank ninth in the Big 12 in total offense and have been shut out in the first half in three of four league games.

In 2012, Boykin started the last nine games after Pachall left the team to seek substance-abuse treatment following an arrest on suspicion of driving while intoxicated.

Tough ticket

TCU (3-4, 1-3 in the Big 12) hosts Texas (4-2, 3-0) at 6:30 p.m. Saturday at Amon G. Carter Stadium, the Longhorns’ first trip to Fort Worth since 1994 when both teams played in the Southwest Conference.

The game has been sold out for months, but standing-room tickets are available from the TCU ticket office.

The ticket reseller SeatGeek.com said tickets are going for an average price of $186, up from TCU’s average of $67 this season.

The site said it’s the toughest ticket to get for a TCU home game since the start of the 2010 season.
