Twenty-five people including six children were without homes Wednesday evening after fire heavily damaged eight units of an east-side apartment building, firefighters said.

The blaze was reported about 7:20 p.m. in the 300 block of Shady Lane Drive, a street in the La Plaza Apartments complex.

When the first crew arrived, firefighters saw one building “heavily involved with fire,” the Fort Worth Fire Department said in a news release.

Forty firefighters brought the flames under control in about 30 minutes, the release said.

“There were no injuries, but eight apartment units were damaged, displacing 19 adults and six children,” the department said. “American Red Cross is on scene to assist the occupants.”

The cause of the fire was under investigation Wednesday night, firefighters said.
