Southlake Carroll dominated Keller Central 25-19, 25-17, 25-20 Tuesday in a District 4-5A volleyball match at Central High School.

After running off 12 straight wins, the Dragons secured another district title and the No. 1 seed in the playoffs, their fourth straight and third outright.

Still, with all that success and a No. 2 state ranking by the Texas Girls Coaches Association, there was coach Arthur Stanfield holding a deep thought lecture with his team.

“You can always get better,” Stanfield said. “Tonight we had five errors in the final set and that’s not something you can do going into the playoffs.”

Carroll (36-1, 12-0), though, hasn’t lost a set during its district run and has its offense fine-tuned as the postseason rapidly approaches.

Outside hitter Timarie Nymeyer was on cue, recording 14 kills and seven scoring blocks to counter a strong middle blocking game from Central.

The Chargers (26-7, 9-3), who fell into a tie for second place with Justin Northwest, couldn’t find the muscle to outhit Carroll.

Alexis Emanuel led Central with 11 kills and two scoring blocks as her team led early in sets one and two while also climbing back from large deficits to make things interesting.

Down 11-7 in set No. 2, Central roared back to square the set at 12-12. Emanuel had two kills in that stretch and Briana Dorsey one.

But Nymeyer had the answer, throwing down five kills in a 13-5 run to close out the set.

“I wouldn’t say it was my best game,” Nymeyer said. “But I practice with a different setter. So tonight when she came on the floor, we just had some good timing and I was comfortable.”
