FORT WORTH — Violent gang crimes are down about 49 percent from 2010, according to a report presented to the Fort Worth City Council today.Total gang crimes, including minor offenses, so far are down 45 percent from 2012, according to the report, while violent crimes are down about 59 percent from 2012. The main reason for the reduction in violent crimes is that gang members are moving toward crimes that are more profit-oriented, such as drugs and weapons, the report states. Councilman Sal Espino said the city needs to look at new trends in crime and new ways to prevent crime, instead of keeping with older tactics for reducing crime. Espino said Fort Worth needs to look at what other cities are doing to combat crime, as well.
