A man was killed Saturday afternoon when the car he was driving collided with a Trinity Railway Express passenger train.

According to an eyewitness, the car went around the gates that had come down along the tracks at the intersection in the 12000 block of Calloway Cemetery Road, a spokeswoman for the TRE said in a statement. Both the gates and the signals were working properly, said spokeswoman Joan Hunter.

Fort Worth firefighters responded to the accident shortly before 2:30 p.m. The man, whose identity was not released, died at the scene, according to a Fort Worth Fire Department statement.

None of the approximately 150 passengers on board the TRE train were injured.

The road and track were closed pending an investigation by Fort Worth police. They were reopened about 6:45 p.m. In the meantime, the T operated bus bridges to take passengers between CentrePort and Hurst-Bell Stations, bypassing the track, Hunter said in the statement.
