Fort Worth Eastern Hills overwhelmed Fort Worth Polytechnic 71-19 on Friday night at Scarborough-Handley Field.
The scoring got started on a safety after a high snap on a punt attempt. Five plays later, Antawn Strahan found Jakyrus Clark for a 23-yard touchdown strike to put Eastern Hills up 8-0. The 2-point conversion failed.
After a turnover on downs, the Highlanders got on the board again two plays later with Clark running it in from 11 yards out. Michael Baisy converted on the 2-point conversion to make the score 16-0 with 3:54 left in the 1st.
A good return by Clark set up the Highlanders with good field position inside the Parrots’ 49-yard line and two plays later, Baisy took the ball across the goal line for a 5-yard score to increase the Eastern Hills lead to 22-0. The 2-point try failed.
The Parrots finally got on the board late in the first quarter on Darius Rogers’ 7-yard scoring pass to Fredrick Carter. Serna made the extra point try to make the Parrots deficit 22-7.
Before the half, Poly went on a 9-play scoring drive to pull to within 30-13 with less than two minutes remaining in the half.
Unfortunately for the Parrots, they would get no closer as Eastern Hills pulled away, scoring on an eight-play, 70-yard drive late in the second quarter. Strahan connected with Cedric Rose for a 22-yard touchdown pass, and Strahan ran for the 2-point attempt to make the halftime score 38-13.
The Parrots scored late in the third on a 6-yard scamper by Carter.
