Nick Foles is making a case to replace Michael Vick as the Eagles’ starting quarterback. Or at least encourage Philadelphia to give Vick all the time he needs to recover from a hamstring injury.

Since taking over in the second quarter two games ago, Foles has put up a 125.1 passer rating. He’s thrown five touchdowns against no interceptions and averaged 8.9 yards per attempt.

He has handled the blitz, and he has made long throws.

Now he’s getting ready to make the start on Sunday against the Dallas Cowboys.

“I’m going into this week like I always do. I work every day like I’m a starter,” Foles told Philadelphia reporters. “But no matter what happens, if I’m not getting reps, I’m getting mental reps. And what throws I didn’t get if I’m not getting the first-team reps, I’m going to throw after, so it sort of works the same way.”

Vick said he can be an emergency quarterback. But he wouldn’t be leaving the pocket.

“But 7-on-7 is kind of unrealistic on Sundays because you’ve got people coming at you,” he said.

Offensive numbers

The Eagles are only the second team in NFL history with 1,500 yards passing and 1,050 yards rushing through the first six games. They are the fourth team with 400 yards in each of their first six games.

The Eagles lead the NFL this season in rushing (178.5 yards per game), yards per rush (5.4), plays of 20 yards or more (42) and passing plays of 20 yards or more (34). They are third in total offense (449.8 yards per game), third in yards per play (6.6) and third in yards on first down (6.7).

Key stat

45.9 Third-down conversion percentage for the Eagles, fourth in the league.

Injury update

Left tackle Jason Peters, safety Patrick Chung and running back Chris Polk have shoulder injuries.

Peters is the most likely to be healthy Sunday. Allen Barbre replaced him against the Buccaneers last week, allowing the Eagles to keep Lane Johnson at right tackle.

Chung had missed the previous two games with a shoulder injury and aggravated it.

Briefly

• There is no home-field advantage in this series. The road team has won seven of the last 14 games.

• The Eagles rank 30th in time of possession but fifth in points per game.

• Receiver Riley Cooper had the first 100-yard game of his career last week.
