DeMarcus Ware said even if he were to play this week at Philadelphia, he wouldn’t be able to get off the ball like he should.

“If I go out there, it wouldn’t be 100 percent,” he said Monday at Valley Ranch. “No question. There wouldn’t even be a point.”

Ware is likely going to miss a game for the first time in his career because of a right quadriceps strain. He has played with numerous neck stingers, arm and shoulder injuries and a back sprain.

Ware realizes he will probably have to miss a game, but he vows it won’t be much more. He is expected to miss two to four weeks.

“I just know that my body recovers really fast,” he said. “I’m not going to be out that long.”

Ware said he was injured on the second play of the game against the Redskins, a scramble by quarterback Robert Griffin III. He played only 16 snaps.

“I was running, and when I tried to lunge and make a tackle, my knee hit the ground,” Ware said. “And I probably tweaked something in there.”

Murray better

Jason Garrett said running back DeMarco Murray felt a little better Monday after suffering a knee sprain against the Redskins.

He said Murray will be evaluated day by day, although it appears Murray is unlikely to play at Philadelphia.

“We have to be able to run the football well when DeMarco Murray is not our runner,” Garrett said. “That’s last night, but that’s also in recent history. We just have to put the next guy in there.”

Murray declined to talk to reporters.

Ratliff plan

Defensive tackle Jay Ratliff was not at Valley Ranch on Monday, but Jason Garrett said he wasn’t expected as the Cowboys continue to evaluate whether he will be able to practice now that he is eligible to come off the physically unable to perform list.

“We need to see him do a lot of things,” Garrett said. “He hasn’t practiced football in a long time, so we’ll have those discussions tonight and tomorrow and figure out what our plan is.”

Marinelli apology

Defensive line coach Rod Marinelli apologized moments after receiving a penalty for unsportsmanlike conduct during Sunday’s game against the Redskins, Jason Garrett said.

“He’s a stand-up guy,” Garrett said. “As soon as the flag happened, he turned to me and apologized. But if everybody brings it like Rod Marinelli brings it, we’ve got a really good chance of being a good football team.”

The penalty gave Washington a first down after Jason Hatcher’s sack would have set up second-and-20. Initially, the play was ruled an incompletion, but a replay reversed the call. Marinelli had argued that the quarterback was down.
