A 29-year-old Fort Worth man has been arrested in connection with a shooting near a homeless shelter that killed one man and left another injured.

Daryl Lynn Jackson was arrested Sunday on a murder warrant after turning surrendering to patrol, according to homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson.

The victim, Steven D. McCalister, and a 37-year-old man, Cedric Williams, were sitting outside the Union Gospel Mission in the 2200 block of Chambers Street on Friday night when a car pulled up and a man got out and approached them, police have said.

Words were exchanged before the man from the car pulled out a gun and began firing at the other two.

McCalister was shot multiple times in the chest and abdomen. He was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital, where he was pronounced dead at 12:38 a.m. Saturday.

Williams was taken to a hospital by private vehicle. He was treated for his injury and released.

Johnson said investigators believe that McCalister was the intended victim. She said an argument between McCalister and Jackson apparently prompted the shooting.

Jackson was being held Monday morning in the Mansfield Jail, with bail set at $100,000.

Tarrant County court records show he has convictions for drugs, theft and unlawful possession of a gun.
