Police are investigating the shooting death of a 30-year-old man late Friday near the Union Gospel Mission.

Steven McCalister died of multiple gunshots in the chest and abdomen at 12:38 a.m. Saturday in the emergency room at John Peter Smith Hospital, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s website.

Officer Sharron Neal, a Fort Worth police spokeswoman, said officers were sent to a shooting call shortly before midnight Friday in the 2200 block of Chambers Street.

Officers found McCalister, who had apparently been shot. He was taken to the hospital, where he died a short time later.

A second victim was taken to the hospital by private vehicle, police said. The person was treated and released.

The investigation indicated that both victims were sitting outside the Union Gospel Mission when a car drove by, police said. The car parked across the street and a person got out, approached the victims and exchanged some words.

The person from the car pulled out a gun and began firing at the two men, police reported. Authorities are looking for a man and woman in the case.

No arrests had been made Sunday afternoon.
