Turning back on veterans

I’m a Vietnam-era veteran who cherishes the time I spent in the military. Over the years, I’ve told my wife I wanted to be buried in a national cemetery. No more. Our country has turned its back on our vets and the current military.

We have the bodies of soldiers killed in Afghanistan arriving at Dover Air Force Base and the Defense Department has directed it will not pay for the funerals or for the loved ones to come to Dover for the arrival.

No matter which side you’re on regarding the government shutdown, this is petty. It’s designed to inflict hurt. It’s accomplishing what the administration wants.

Today I would encourage parents and grandparents to dissuade their children from signing up to serve, as they will not have any support from our government.
