AZLE — The return of quarterback Jamie King from injury Friday pushed Azle over the top for a 36-33 homecoming victory against White Settlement Brewer at Hornet Field.
The junior rushed for 189 yards and two scores after spending the past three weeks on the sidelines.
“Jamie [King] came in and gave us a big boost,” Azle coach Devon Dorris said. “He helped us get out to a lead early and provided that spark.”
King’s biggest spark play came on the first play of the fourth quarter. Brewer (3-3, 0-3 District 5-4A) had crept back within one score, down 29-26 late in the third after quarterback Chris Gibson’s 3-yard rushing score. King answered with a 51-yard touchdown scamper down the sideline on the drive’s third play to give Azle (3-3, 1-2) a 36-26 lead with 11:46 to play.
His other touchdown came in the middle of the second quarter and gave the Hornets a 19-7 lead at the time.
Gibson rushed for 148 yards and two touchdowns and passed for 171 yards and two more scores.
