SPRINGTOWN — Kennedale tailback Juwan Washington rushed for six touchdowns and close to 300 yards Friday night in a 56-28 victory over Springtown in both teams’ District 6-3A opener at Porcupine Stadium.
Washington rushed for three touchdowns in each half, and Donnie Darville added 157 yards and a score of his own as a tied game at the half turned into a Kennedale offensive display in the last two quarters.
Springtown quarterback Landry Turner totaled over 360 combined yards through the air and on the ground, including four first-half touchdown passes, two of which were to wide receiver Dillon Springfield.
Springtown (1-5, 0-1) led 14-8 after the first quarter thanks to two scores by Turner, but it was Washington’s touchdowns that helped Kennedale (2-4, 1-0) tie the score 28-28 at halftime.
In the second half, Darville opened the quarter with a 50-yard romp that gave the Wildcats the lead for good.
Mateo Herrera led the Porcupines’ receiving corps with 145 yards and a score.
Kennedale quarterback Brandon Hull added a passing TD.
