Mansfield Summit scored 21 unanswered points to rally past Mansfield Lake Ridge 35-28 Friday night at Vernon Newsom Stadium.
Lake Ridge (1-5, 0-3 District 15-4A) held a 14-point advantage heading into the fourth quarter.
Summit sophomore quarterback Braden Nolen accounted for all five touchdowns for the Jaguars. He passed for four touchdowns and added one on the ground. He was 11 of 22 for 227 and added 31 yards rushing on eight carries.
Lake Ridge drove to the 12-yard line of Summit with less than 2 minutes to play in the game. But the Eagles fumbled on fourth-and-9, and Brandon Besses jumped on the ball to clinch the win for Summit.
Lake Ridge quarterback Jett Duffey was 12 of 18 for 288 yards and three touchdowns. Teammate Duke Carter ran for 131 yards on 22 carries.
Jordan Hester had a game-high 147 yards on the ground for Summit on 23 carries. Johnson Ubani picked up five catches, two touchdowns and had 120 yards of receiving.
Nolen led Summit on its 21-point turnaround beginning with a three-play drive in which he would set up the team on a 32-yard pass to the 4-yard line. He ran in for a touchdown on the next play.
Burrell Taylor picked up the Jaguars’ next touchdown pass after catching a 38-yard strike from Nolen.
Nolen connected with Jordan Aikens on the next drive to give Summit a seven-point advantage.
The Eagles connected on a 66-yard pass for a touchdown from the arm of Duffey, but Summit responded with a 25-yard pass from Nolen to Johnson.
