BURLESON — Burleson Centennial moved into the thick of the District 8-4A playoff chase Friday night with a 44-14 homecoming victory over Joshua at Burleson Stadium.
The Spartans (2-4, 2-1) reeled off 24 points to open the game before Joshua (0-6, 0-3) scored late in the first half.
Centennial running back Ricky Van Weezel, who drew the start, had a big night.
The junior opened the Spartans’ scoring with a 30-yard run and finished as the leading rusher with 126 yards on 11 carries. Van Weezel accounted for the Spartans’ final score with a 10-yard run.
Senior DeMarcus Williams crossed the 100-yard mark with 120 yards on 13 attempts and added a 1-yard touchdown run. The Spartans tallied 476 yards of offense.
Junior quarterback Brady Allen completed 7 of 15 passes for 179 yards and three touchdowns.
