Rodeo

At the end of the Pro Rodeo Cowboys Association (PRCA) regular season a week ago Sunday, former Weatherford College student Will Woodfin had earned the 2013 PRCA Rookie of the Year Award for team roping heelers. Woodfin won more than $44,212 in his first season of pro rodeo and finished 24th in the final world standings.

Woodfin, a Marshall native, won the 2012 Southwest Region championship for WC, earning a berth in the College National Finals Rodeo.

Tie-down roper Randall Carlisle became the sixth former WC student to earn a berth in the Wrangler National Finals Rodeo in Las Vegas. Carlisle, a WC competitor in 2005-07, won seven events this season, including the Fort Worth Stock Show & Rodeo, the Fiesta de los Vaqueros in Tucson, Ariz., and the Heart of the North Rodeo in Spooner, Wis. The Lipan High School native currently is ranked 15th in the world in his event.

Carlisle will join former WC students Reese Riemer (24th in tie-down roping), Nick Rawlings (44th in team roping headers), Wil Gasperson (46th in steer roping) and Clayton Haas (32nd in steer wrestling) in Las Vegas. The WNFR will run Dec. 5-14 at the Thomas & Mack Center.

Golf

The 13th annual WC Foundation Golf Tournament is coming up Oct. 17, and they would “love to have you at the event as either a player or a sponsor.”

The tournament is in a new location this year at Canyon West Golf Club, but all the same “great raffle items, awesome door prizes, dinner from Chicken Express and much more” remains.

“Every dollar raised will be matched by the Department of Education for scholarship support, so this is a great opportunity for our students,” said Brent Baker, WC Vice President of Institutional Advancement.

The tournament is a four-person scramble and trophies will be given for first, second and third place, as well as Longest Drive and Closest to the Pin. Entry fee is $80 per person or $300 per foursome and includes post-tournament meal from Chicken Express, golf gift, green fees and cart. Also available is a “mulligan package” for $25 per golfer which includes two mulligans and two raffle tickets.

Players can register online at wc.edu/golf_tournament with either a credit/debit card, send in a check or pay fees on the day of the tournament.

For those interested in becoming sponsors, the following packages are being offered:
