Development in Keller is continuing to thrive with 10 new eateries, 28 new retail stores and 23 new offices opening since the first of the year.In addition to new commerce, three existing businesses expanded.Oct. 1, DeAnna Beseda Reaves, economic development coordinator, gave City Council a recap of business openings and new construction as of Sept. 30.Along with attending ribbon cuttings and grand openings, Reaves shared other things the city’s Economic Development Department does for community outreach.“We attend both the Keller Business Connections meetings and the Greater Keller Chamber of Commerce meetings to talk about monthly updates and let the business community know what is currently going on here in Keller,” Reaves said.New marketing material includes the city’s first Shopping and Dining Guide, which can be found at local eateries and retail shops.Councilman Bill Dodge told Reaves how much he appreciates the new guide.“I’ve got to take my hat off to you and the staff for creating this and getting it out to the public,” he said. “When you look through this brochure, it’s amazing how may eateries and shopping areas we have throughout the city. It gives you locations, websites, times of operation. It’s just a fantastic first start.”Here, a snapshot of Keller’s newest developments EateriesCafe Medi Greek & Mediterranean Cusine opened their second location on Olive Street this summer. Their first location is in Hurst. Also in the Old Town area, Beans and Cream Gourmet Coffee opened on Main Street and La Casita Mexican food restaurant opened on W. Vine St.In the Bear Creek Plaza shopping center on S. Main St., DeVivo Bros. Eatery starting serving rustic comfort food in May. Opening in the same shopping center is Keller’s latest sweet shop, Cupcake Loco.Stonewood Village on Keller Parkway became home to iFratelli Pizza. On the other end of Keller Parkway, Chow N Chill Bar & Grill opened in the Keller Crossing Shopping Center.Lupe’s Tex Mex Grill and Mabuhay Filipino & Hawaiian Grill opened this summer on Rufe Snow Drive. This is Lupe’s third location, the other two are located in Arlington and Bedford. King Wok II opened nearby on North Tarrant Parkway. Commercial developmentThis summer, Sprouts, a specialty grocery store occupying 32,652 square feet, opened on South Main Street and Legacy at Bear Creek. An assisted living and memory care facility, opened on Keller Smithfield Road with more than 51,000 square feet of space.Multiple medical facilities are continuing to open in Keller including Cook Children's Pediatrics, which opened a 6,650-square-foot pediatric medical office at 1601 Keller Parkway in July.Foot and Ankle Associates of North Texas, opened a second location at 816 Keller Parkway in March. The first location is in Grapevine. Another office in that newly built medical facility includes Dr. Charles W. Prochers, a pulmonary critical care specialist.Other retail businesses that opened in 2013 include Active Outfitters, a clothing store in Bear Creek Plaza at 900 S Main St. In the same shopping center, Mathnasium opened in January. The learning center specializes in boosting math skills from early education through high school.Anytime fitness, a 7,258-square-foot gym and health club center, opened in August at 761 Keller Parkway. Projects under constructionBaylor Emergency Medical Center, a 37,759-square-foot emergency room at 620 S. Main St., is close to completion.In Old Town Keller, Caminito School, a 5,896-square-foot learning facility, is under construction at 252 Elm St. as an expansion of it current business. Also in the Old Town Keller area, Oak Hill Contractors is adding 435 square feet to their building at 234 S. Main St.At 300 N. Main Street, the redevelopment of Keller Plaza includes a remodeled Dollar General store that moved into a larger building. Down the road at 250 S. Main St., Bronson Rock Burgers & Beer recently completed a concert hall building, adding 2,936 square feet to the restaurant.On Rufe Snow Drive, Children’s Learning Adventure is constructing a 33,237-square-foot facility that will include a bowling alley. Also on Rufe Snow Drive is Wyndham Village Offices, a 2,737-square-foot office building.At 8821 Davis Blvd., Hidden Lakes Office Park is constructing a 5,050-square-foot office.On Keller Parkway two new buildings are being constructed — Freddy's Frozen Custard & Steakburgers at 1471 Keller Parkway and First Financial Bank at 1341 Keller Parkway. ResidentialThrough Sept. 30, 199 new building permits were issued for residential development with an average square footage of 4,080 and an average construction cost at $259,999.
