Cross country teams tuning up for postseason

There’s less than one month left in the regular cross country season, and here’s a look at how some of our coverage programs performed at the Nike South Invitational, one of the biggest meets before the postseason arrives.

Carroll boys finish fifth at Nike South, girls claim third place

The Carroll boys cross country team finished fifth overall in the Varsity Boys 5,000 meter run ELITE division of the Nike South Invitational last weekend, claiming the second overall individual place with runner Jacob Pickle (15:58.90).

Elijah Canal finished ninth overall for the Dragons at the meet with a time of 16:21.40, and Johnny Kemps was 34th overall with a time of 16:50.50.

Carroll finished with an average time of 16:39.02 and a total time of 1:23.16.

On the girls side, the Lady Dragons finished third overall in the Varsity Girls 5,000 meter run ELITE division of the Nike South Invitational.

Samantha Young was the top runner for the Carroll girls with a time of 18:54.10, finishing ninth overall in the competition individually.

Antigone Archer was right on her heels with a time of 19:00.40 to finish 11th overall at the meet, and Moriah Dadson finished 18th at the meet with a time 19:32.00.

The Carroll girls ran an average time of 19:29.96 and a total time of 1:37.30.

Carroll also had runners competing in the Varsity 5,000 Meter Varsity Red division, where the team finished third overall with an average time of 17:56.64.

The top runner on the boys side was Eric Karl with a time of 17:43.70.

In the girls Varsity 5K race, the Lady Dragons also finished third overall with an average time of 21:59.86.

Stacey Young was the top runner on the girls side with a time of 21:35.60.

Colleyville Heritage competes at Nike South Invitational

The Colleyville Heritage girls cross country team finished 24th overall in the Varsity Girls 5,000 meter run ELITE division of the Nike South Invitational last weekend in the Woodlands.

Jenny Covington was the top runner on the girls side, finishing 72nd overall with a time of 21:00.90 in the competition.

Alissa Andi finished with a time of 22:31.50 at the meet, while Rylie Koetting ran a time of 22:45.70 in the competition to round out the top three for the Lady Panthers.

Colleyville Heritage ran an average time of 23:40.94 at the invitational and a total time of 1:58.25.

In the Varsity Green division, the boys had three runners place overall, with Dee Russell running a time of 18:58.30 for the boys to finish 65th overall.

Luis Mungra ran a time of 19:27.40 on the boys side, and Jaret Thurston finished with a time of 19:55.20 in the competition.
