Chance Nevarez kicked 11 extra points to become the state’s all-time leader for consecutive PATs in Aledo’s 77-16 District 7-4A rout of Fort Worth South Hills on homecoming night at Bearcat Stadium.

Late in the first half, Nevarez matched China Springs’ James French’s state record of 114 consecutive extra points, according to Dave Campbell’s Texas Football magazine. On the Bearcats’ first possession of the second half, running back Daythan Davis gave Nevarez his chance at history, barreling in from the 1 for his third rushing touchdown of the night.

“I was a little nervous,” said a grinning Nevarez after the game. “I was really trying not to think about what would happen if I missed it.”

After a good snap and secure hold, Nevarez booted the kick through the uprights just as he had done the previous 114 attempts, only this time he walked off the field as the state record holder.

“I was just ecstatic, it doesn’t really feel real that I’ve accomplished this, but I wouldn’t be able to do any of this without my teammates.”

Aledo (5-0, 2-0 in District 7-4A) scored on all 11 of its possessions, needing just 36 plays to rack up 712 yards of offense.

“I started watching Chance kick in the seventh grade,” Aledo coach Tim Buchanan said. “We tried to stay away from talking about it all week, but we all knew [the record] was coming, and I’m just glad it happened at home.”

Freshman quarterback Tracin Wallace led South Hills (3-2, 0-2) to three scoring drives, finishing with 204 passing yards, adding 90 more on the ground.
