MANSFIELD — The Ennis Lions remained unbeaten on the season, and in District 15-4A, with a 62-14 victory against Mansfield Lake Ridge on Friday at Newsom Stadium.
Ennis (5-0, 2-0) scored on six of its first seven possessions to build a comfortable 36-7 lead at the half, with running backs Terence Williams and Nick Gabriel leading the way.
Williams scored on runs of 33 and 64 yards and also hauled in a 28-yard scoring pass from quarterback Devin Smith. Gabriel had TD runs of 41 and 3 yards.
Ennis finished the night with 361 yards rushing and Smith, who connected on his first five passing attempts, finished with 204 yards passing on 11 completions.
Williams added a 7-yard scoring run in the second half and led all rushers with 171 yards on 13 carries. Gabriel’s third touchdown, from 9 yards out, finished his night with 82 yards on 10 carries and gave Ennis a 56-7 lead with 11:53 left.
In the first half, Lake Ridge (1-4, 0-2) lost the ball on downs five times and punted twice.
The Eagles got on the board with 4:57 left in the half on a 63-yard scoring pass from Jett Duffey to Savaughn Anderson.
Junior running back Deondre Jones led the Eagles in rushing with 100 yards on 24 carries while Seth Mayfield added 93 yards on 23 carries.
