A freshman football player at Colleyville Heritage High School was taken by helicopter ambulance to a Fort Worth hospital after taking a “big hit” during a game Thursday evening, a coach reported.

The injured player is on the school’s freshman squad, Mike Fuller, Colleyville’s varsity head coach, said.

“He took a big hit,” Fuller said.

The coach declined to release the player’s name.

Emergency responders thought it best to send him to Texas Health Harris Methodist Fort Worth Hospital “for precautionary reasons,” Fuller said.

The coach said he talked to the player’s mother by phone and she reported that he was lucid and had movement in his limbs, although he was in a lot of pain.

The squad was playing Grapevine High School freshmen at Heritage High School’s field, 5401 Heritage Ave.
