Westbound traffic on Western Center Boulevard between North Riverside Drive and Interstate 35W will be detoured from 8 tonight through 6 a.m. Monday while new water line connections are installed near the interstate.

Westbound motorists will be directed into a horseshoe-shaped detour at North Riverside. Traffic will head north to Basswood Boulevard, west to I-35W and south on the I-35W access road back to Western Center.

Eastbound traffic on Western Center will remain open to traffic, and access to businesses in westbound lanes “will be maintained,” according to the news release.

The work is part of the Interstate 35W construction project that will rebuild the corridor and add TEXpress toll lanes, auxiliary lanes and some frontage roads from north of Loop 820 to north of U.S. 81/287, according to a news release from Texas Department of Transportation.

The $244 million project is scheduled for completion in 2016. — Bill Miller
