A Fort Worth man was arrested Friday and is facing murder charges for the shooting of a 26-year-old.

Marcus Ray Smith, 20, is being held in Mansfield Jail with bond set at $250,000.

A fight apparently sparked the fatal shooting Thursday night, police said.

The victim, Dominiquie Phillips of Fort Worth, who died of a gunshot wound to the chest was taken by private vehicle to John Peter Smith Hospital, said homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson.

He was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. inside the operating room, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police were dispatched to the fight around 10:30 p.m. at Etta and Calumet streets.

“The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were in a physical fight,” said Johnson. “During this fight, the suspect pulled a weapon and fired at the victim, striking him.”
