A fight apparently sparked the fatal shooting of a 26-year-old Fort Worth man Thursday night, police said.

The victim, Dominiquie Phillips, was taken by private vehicle to John Peter Smith Hospital, said homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson.

He was pronounced dead at 11:54 p.m. inside the operating room, according to the Tarrant County Medical Examiner’s Office.

Police were dispatched to the fight around 10:30 p.m. at Etta and Calumet streets.

“The investigation revealed that the victim and suspect were in a physical fight,” said homicide Sgt. Cheryl Johnson. “During this fight, the suspect pulled a weapon and fired at the victim, striking him.”

Johnson declined to release additional details Friday, citing the on-going investigation.
