WACO — Cleburne overcame a first-quarter deficit to defeat Waco 28-14 on Friday in a District 8-4A game.
Waco opened the scoring in the first quarter on a 16-yard pass from Traynham Moore to Tyler Taylor.
Cleburne got on the board when defensive tackle Tevin Boone picked off a screen pass and returned it 42 yards for a touchdown.
The Yellow Jackets (3-1, 1-0) took the lead on their following drive when Brian Baca found receiver Kameron Pickett, who made a juggling catch and scored from 28 yards out with 2:41 left in the first half.
Waco (2-2, 0-1) tied it on a 1-yard quarterback sneak by Moore with 7:18 left in the third. But the fourth quarter belonged to Cleburne.
Waco threatened to get back in the game, but the Lions turned the ball over on downs at the Cleburne 17 with just over four minutes to play, and the Jackets ran the ball to kill the clock.
