Xavier Turner rushed for 319 yards and six touchdowns to propel Birdville to a 72-7 victory over Fort Worth Carter-Riverside in a District 6-4A meeting Thursday night.
Birdville (3-2, 1-2) earned its first district win of the year behind an offense that amassed 920 total yards, including 683 on the ground.
Turner got the Hawks’ party started early with 42- and 7-yard scoring runs in the game’s opening two minutes. Birdville continued its first quarter dominance with quarterback Will Hayward’s 32-yard touchdown pass to Jake Bransford. Turner added his third score of the quarter, from a yard out, to put Birdville ahead 28-0 at the end of the first period.
Birdville met little resistance in the second period, with Turner plowing in on another 1-yard dive and Hayward sailing two more scoring passes — 37 yards to Jordan Martinsen and 26 yards to Bransford for a 48-0 halftime bulge.
Turner would add his final two scores in the third quarter, from 11 yards and 38 yards, as the Hawks’ advantage swelled to 62-0.
In the fourth quarter, Carter-Riverside (0-5, 0-3) got on the score sheet when quarterback Vincent Luna found the end zone from a yard out. But Birdville had the last punch, a 58-yard TD romp by Cameron Hollie.
In addition to Turner’s 319 rushing yards, Isaiah Duarte added 159 on seven carries and Hollie had 119 on seven totes. Bransford made five catches for 125 yards.
