It was ugly. Players squirmed. It was all there to clearly see. Blown tackles against Texas Tech that led to touchdowns. The film session can be brutal after a loss, but especially so when a few defensive miscues are so plainly obvious.“It was ugly,” TCU cornerback Kevin White said. “It was plays that shouldn’t even have happened. No touchdowns, it shouldn’t have been anything like that. It was ugly to watch, but it’s good that we watched it so we can get better and improve from it.”If there’s anything to watch closely in the Horned Frogs’ game Saturday against SMU (1-2), it’s the tackling. Expect there to be a lot of wrapping up and swarming to the ball carrier, the kind of defense fans are used to seeing out of TCU.In some cases, poor tackling doesn’t adequately describe what happened at Texas Tech. Because, as coach Gary Patterson pointed out, on a couple occasions a tackle wasn’t even attempted as players tried to knock the ball carrier down instead of tackling him.It has been a point of emphasis for Patterson, who has typically had very good tackling teams. Of course, one game doesn’t define a season and the technique used on a couple of Tech’s big gains were not the norm in what turned out to be a decent game by the defense. Color blockingCheck your email, TCU season ticket holders. Your instructions for a color blocking plan for Saturday’s game against SMU have been sent out. Fans are being asked to wear either purple or white, depending on their seat location. Only two sections will wear the same color — the entire student section on the east side is asked to wear purple. The section behind the south end zone is asked to wear white.A limited number of tickets remain for the 93rd meeting between the two schools.Quotable“You can’t focus on what outside people are saying, what the fans are saying. Because at the end of the day, if you win everybody is going to be right back on that bandwagon. We understand when you win people are going to love you; when you lose there’s going to be worries and people are going to be saying things. We try to block it out and focus on what we can do.” — TCU cornerback Kevin White on some of the fan reaction after the Horned Frogs’ 1-2 start.
