Azle man killed in wreck near Texas Motor Speedway

An Azle man was killed Monday night in a two-vehicle wreck near Texas Motor Speedway, police said.

The victim was identified as Richard Irelan, 55, the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office reported on its website on Tuesday. Irelan was pronounced dead at the scene.

Police responded to the wreck shortly before 8 p.m. Monday at Texas 114 at Interstate 35W.

A Mustang driven by the victim was westbound on Texas 114 when it collided with a sports utility vehicle, said Northlake Police Chief Robert Crawford on Tuesday.

According to police reports, the SUV had been traveling eastbound on Texas 114 and was attempting to turn left onto a the northbound I-35W access road when the vehicles collided.

The SUV driver was treated at the scene, Crawford said.

The wreck was under investigation, the police chief said.
