A new application will give the Northwest school district community access to news, campus contacts and other info on the go.

The first phase of Northwest’s mobile app launches Oct. 16 and will be available on Apple- and Android-brand smart phones and tablets. Designed by Arlington-based EST Group, the app will include a staff directory, campus locations, a who-to-call list and an option to receive push notifications from the district and individual campuses.

“Using a mobile app is becoming more common among school districts,” Emily Conklin, Northwest’s director of communications, said in an email. “However, Northwest ISD is taking a unique approach to this form of communication. Our app is completely customized and designed for our school district with features we know our parents, teachers and community will use.”

The second phase of the Northwest mobile app is scheduled to roll out in January. This phase will feature access for parents to check grades, attendance records, lunch account balances and attendance boundary information.

“We know from a recent parent survey that our community wants their news on a mobile device,” Conklin said. “It's quick, convenient and current with today's technology trends.”
