FORT WORTH A homeowner in north Fort Worth critically wounded his neighbor early Sunday after the two had an altercation and the neighbor broke into his home, police said.

The victim was taken to John Peter Smith Hospital where he was in critical but stable condition.

Police responded to a burglary call at a home in the 9100 block of Saratoga Road shortly before 1 a.m. Sunday. According to preliminary police reports, the victim had broken into the residence and was shot by the homeowner.

Officers determined that the two men had had an altercation earlier in the evening at the homeowner’s residence. The neighbor apparently left, but later returned, made his way into the residence, and was shot, said Fort Worth police Capt. Charles Ramirez on Sunday in an email.

Police did not release any additional information on the shooting.
