Defending champion Jason Johnson won his second consecutive U.S. Dirt Track Championship victory with a late-race pass at Texas Motor Speedway in a rain-plagued event that ended in the wee hours Sunday morning.

How wee was it?

“Racing at 3 a.m. is not that bad,” said Modified division winner Chris Brown, in a report from “It’s the waiting since 9 a.m. this morning that’s been the worst, but all-in-all, it worked out so it’s been good. I just sat and watched. I’m a big racing fan even if I’m not in the car.”

Rain that postponed qualifying on Friday mucked up the works Saturday morning, pushing the qualifications deeper in the day.
