Gainesville’s fourth-quarter surge tops Springtown

The Gainesville Leopards broke open a close game with three fourth-quarter touchdowns for a 41-18 nondistrict victory Friday over Springtown at Leopards Stadium.

Springtown (1-3) pulled within 20-18 midway through the third quarter when Landry Turner threw a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Hester.

Gainesville’s Lilton Moore intercepted a pass late in the third quarter, and the Leopards (3-0) marched 96 yards, scoring on a 22-yard run by Adam Berryman, who finished with 173 yards on 26 carries.

Gainesville’s Demarius Fair returned a fumble 25 yards for a touchdown to put the Leopards up 34-18 with 10:44 remaining, and Mason Copeland grabbed an interception and ran it back 65 yards to set up Berryman’s 1-yard score, the Leopards’ third in five minutes.

Gainesville led 20-12 at halftime after a 1-yard touchdown by Mason Copeland, a 20-yard interception return by Devin Mims and a 6-yard run by Copeland.

Hester caught a 16-yard touchdown pass from Turner, who also scored on a 19-yard run in the first half for Springtown.
