Duncanville defenders knocked down a 2-point conversion pass attempt with 39 seconds remaining to hold on for a 19-17 victory over Midlothian in the teams’ District 7-5A opener on Friday night at Panther Stadium.

Midlothian had scored on a 28-yard pass from quarterback Zach Humphries to wide receiver Alex Cazares to close the gap to two points.

The Duncanville defense also made another big play with 6:19 left in the second quarter when linebacker Za’Carrius Green picked up a loose ball in the Midlothian backfield and returned it 26 yards for a touchdown to give Duncanville (3-1, 1-0 in 7-5A) a 19-3 lead.

Duncanville’s offense did its best work in the first half when quarterback Jeremiah Drake threw two touchdown passes, one for 8 yards to Xavier Brown and another for 18 yards to Devante Smith. Drake completed 13 of 21 passes for 150 yards on the night, far below his season averages.

Victor Williams shined for Midlothian (2-2, 0-1). He rushed for 163 yards and a touchdown on 24 carries and added 50 yards receiving.
