A man who ran onto East Loop 820 in Forest Hill was killed late Thursday afternoon when he was struck by a large truck, police said.

Forest Hill police were called about 3:50 p.m. “to assist in what was believed at the time to be a foot pursuit” in the 5300 block of the loop, police Chief Dan Dennis said in a news release.

He did not explain why the man was being chased and had not returned a phone message by late Thursday.

Callers to 911 said the man ran into traffic lanes and was hit by a tractor-trailer, said Matt Zavadsky, a MedStar spokesman.

The man was “pronounced dead at the scene,” Dennis said in the news release.

The freeway was “narrowed to one lane” until 6:41 p.m., Dennis said. Meanwhile, traffic backed up to Interstate 35W, according to television news reports.

The body was taken to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office to be identified while Forest Hill detectives continued to investigate, Dennis said.
