First Baptist starts grief support group

First Baptist Church Mansfield is starting a Bereavement Support Group that will meet on Wednesdays for eight weeks from Oct. 2-Nov. 20. Come find companions who have made the journey from a place of grief and despair to the healing and joy that Jesus has promised those who mourn. We will meet in Room A6 of the Worship Center Building from 6:30-8:30 p.m. You don’t have to register to join the group, but we encourage you to let us know you are coming by registering at www.firstmansfield.com. Click on the “Register” link at the top of the page and choose “Journey Toward Joy.”

Women invited to Sisters on Saturdays

Ladies, are you looking for a gathering to make new friends and be encouraged through praise and worship? The women’s ministry at Mansfield Bible Church invites you to Sisters on Saturday(S.O.S.) from 9 a.m.-3 p.m. Sept. 28. Enjoy breakfast and lunch, hear Becky Lewis’ story of how she traveled to 11 countries in 11 months on a mission trip, praise, worship and fellowship.

First Methodist Mansfield will offer DivorceCare, a 13-week class for those who are going through a divorce, have recently been through a divorce or need Christian support for any type of marriage separation, beginning Oct. 6. Classes will meet from 10:45 a.m.-12:15 p.m. DivorceCare for Kids (DC4K) is offered at the same time for the participants’ children, ages 6-12, giving them a place to share their feelings and heal. Walnut Ridge holds DivorceCare

DivorceCare is a weekly seminar/support group that will help you heal from the hurt. It’s a warm, caring environment led by people who understand what you are going through. Learn practical information and gain hope for your future

Church offers Financial Peace University

More than 2 million families have positively changed their financial future through Dave Ramsey’s Financial Peace University. Updated in summer 2012, the now nine-week course provides families and individuals with practical tools to gain control of their finances and set themselves up for long-term financial success. The course meets once a week where a different lesson is taught by Dave on DVD followed by a small-group discussion. Lessons include budgeting, relationships and money, getting out of debt, saving for emergencies and investing.

FPU will be held in Mansfield at Word of Life Family Church, 2200 U.S. 287 North. The classes will begin at 7 p.m. Sept. 19. Contact Bianca Morante at (817) 473-1881 for more information or to register.

St. Jude plans monthly Bingo

St. Jude Catholic Church will now offer Bingo every month instead of every other month. Bingo packets are $25 to play 14 games. Cover all guarantee payout is $300.

The hall opens at 6 p.m. with first call at 6:30 p.m. Food and drinks will be available for purchase.

Upcoming dates for Bingo are Oct. 12, Nov. 9 and Dec. 14 at the St. Jude Parish Hall on the corner of Graves and Dallas streets.

Community of Hope slates golf tourney

Community of Hope’s annual golf tournament will take place Oct. 5 at Tangle Ridge Golf Course in Grand Prairie. Shotgun start is at 1 p.m. The golfers will have an opportunity to participate in the $1 million Hole-in-One Shootout. The format is a four-person scramble with an entry fee of $85 per person, or $340 per foursome.

Entry includes 18 holes of golf with cart, 2 mulligans, swag bag, silent auction and dinner/awards in the club house. All proceeds benefit Community of Hope’s Student Ministry Program. Church plans 37th annual Fall Festival

St. Jude’s 37th annual Fall Festival will be held from 2-10 p.m. Oct. 5. The festival will be held at 500 E. Dallas St. with free parking and admission. Everyone is welcome.

Entertainment will include DJ Travis Stewart from 2-6 p.m., followed by Spanish dancers Ballet Folklorico at 6 p.m. Foritos Kumbia, in their seventh annual appearance at the festival, will entertain the crowd with great Spanish music and dancing from 7-10 p.m.

There will be fun for the entire family, with plenty of craft vendors and great ethnic food, including gorditas, flautas, burgers, turkey legs, french fries, tacos and more. There will be great rides for the kids and adults, including a mechanical bull ride, and plenty of games for all the kids with great prizes. Buy a raffle ticket for a chance at $3,000 and many other prizes in the raffle.

Always a crowd pleaser is the homemade cake walk in the church center from 2 p.m. until we sell out. Special added attraction this year will be a live petting zoo.
