ARLINGTON — Colby Lewis is in good spirits three weeks after right hip resurfacing surgery. It’s quite a feeling for Lewis to bend over and tie his shoes without pain. But it remains to be seen how Lewis will bounce back on the mound and what teams will be willing to give the soon-to-be free agent a chance to do just that.Lewis, 34, said his preference is to stay with the Rangers, but there have not been negotiations at this point. At this time last year, the Rangers and Lewis reached an agreement on a major league, incentive-laden contract worth a base salary of $2 million, a few weeks after Lewis underwent flexor tendon surgery on his right elbow. This time around, though, Lewis acknowledged that he is likely more in line for a minor league deal. He hasn’t pitched this season, and it’s a relative unknown as to how pitchers recover from hip surfacing surgery.“It’s one of those things we’re going to have to weigh in the off-season,” Lewis said. “With nobody really known to test these waters as to what I’ve had hip-wise, we’re going to see what kind of teams are going to be willing to take a shot at it.”The Rangers aren’t shy about signing players coming off injuries. Lewis, Brandon Webb, Jason Jennings, Neal Cotts and Rich Harden are among the pitchers they’ve signed in the past few years. When healthy, Lewis has shown to be a reliable starter. He’s 32-29 with a 3.93 ERA in 80 starts over his last three seasons with the Rangers, and he went 4-1 with a 2.34 ERA in eight postseason starts.“I’d love to come back,” said Lewis, whose goal is to reach the 10-year mark in service time.“If all is equal in the off-season, I’m definitely coming back here.”Losses with YuYu Darvish threw seven innings of one-run ball in his last start and took the loss. He has lost three consecutive starts for the first time in his career, and hasn’t won since Aug. 12.The Rangers haven’t won a game in which Darvish has started since Aug. 12.“I find it hard to believe that’s been an issue with a few of our pitchers,” Ron Washington said. “You don’t expect to go through a rotation three times and none of your best pitchers get a decision.Darvish, who starts Saturday, has gone 0-3 with a 3.82 ERA over his last six starts. He’s left two of them with cramping issues, but said it’s not related to dehydration.“It’s something that I’m just going to have to grind through,” said Darvish, who is expected to work with Geovany Soto behind the plate Saturday.Jet stream gone?Rangers Ballpark has always been known for its jet stream out to right-center field, but that hasn’t been the case this season. Maybe it’s the new home-plate concourse, or maybe it’s just the weather.Whatever the reason, it’s been noticed.“It’s been there a couple nights, but it hasn’t been there with the consistency, which is good,” Ron Washington said. “So now everything is legit.”Going into this season, Rangers Ballpark averaged 2.52 homers per game, the fourth-highest among active parks. This season there have only been an average of 2.01 homers per game going into Friday, which is 12thin the majors.Briefly• The Rangers had five of their international signees from this year work out at the Ballpark on Friday. Michael De Leon, Jose Almonte, Marcos Diplan, Yeison Yrizarri and Edgar Arredondo attended and are now headed to the instructional league in Arizona.• Lance Berkman hasn’t started since Sept. 3, and Ron Washington has no set plans to get the 37-year-old back into the lineup. “With all the time he had off and where we are ... there are healthier guys right now,” Washington said.• Washington on Mitch Moreland’s recent offensive struggles: “Swinging and missing, and it’s mostly off-speed stuff. That’s what it’s been.”• The Rangers Baseball Foundation and the players’ wives will hold a fundraiser Sept. 28 with various “grab bags” with items from game-used bats to autographed balls for $50, $100 or $200. Part of the proceeds will benefit the Christopher Lane Memorial Fund. Lane, an Australian playing college baseball in Oklahoma, was murdered last month.
