ALEDO — The Aledo Bearcats continued their impressive start to the season in a dominating 49-7 win Friday over Monterrey Tec at Bearcat Stadium.
Aledo (3-0) racked up 500 yards of total offense, and gave up only 210 yards to the visiting Borregos.
Luke Bishop put Aledo on the scoreboard first with a 59-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Newsome on the Bearcats’ third play of the game.
Running back Jess Anders added two first-half touchdowns, both of which were 2-yard runs.
Aledo’s defense shined again as it held Monterrey Tec to 29 first-half yards. Linebacker Tyson Mauser intercepted Monterrey Tec’s Julio Vazquez late in the second quarter, leading to a Bishop 5-yard touchdown run to close the first half with a 35-0 lead.
Anders continued the rout for Aledo in the third quarter by adding his third touchdown of the game, a 31-yard run, to push the Bearcats’ lead to 42-0. Anders finished his three-touchdown performance with 48 yards on 13 carries.
Bishop’s game ended on a high note, connecting with a wide-open Quanel Williams in the third quarter for a 52-yard touchdown for Aledo’s final score of the game. Bishop was 14 of 18 passing for 256 yards and two touchdowns.
Aledo’s well-balanced game mirrored the performance of QB/WR Ryan Newsome’s.
Newsome compiled 187 yards on the game, leading the Bearcats in rushing yards (74) and receiving yards (87).
The Bearcats have outscored their opponents 149-24 in three games.
For Monterrey Tec (0-3), running back Marcelo Gonzalez provided the Borregos with their lone score of the night on a 56-yard run late in the fourth quarter.
