JUSTIN — Before Trophy Club Nelson’s offense took the field Friday night, the Bobcats led Burleson Centennial 14-0, and Nelson went on to 47-0 homecoming victory in a nondistrict game at Northwest ISD Stadium.
Nelson (3-0) raced to a 34-0 by halftime. Centennial (0-3) scored 75 points last week but couldn’t get on the board Friday.
Bobcats quarterback Esteban Ortega threw for 145 yards and two scores and ran 11 times for 120 yards and a touchdown.
The Bobcats took the 14-0 lead on a 74-yard punt return by Nick Lynch and Bobby Jones’ 37-yard interception return.
When the Bobcats’ offense took the field, it strung together a 10-play, 66-yard drive, capped by Ortega’s 12-yard pass to Jordan Diamond for a 21-0 lead.
Jordan Ortiz added an 11-yard TD run and Lynch caught a 22-yard scoring strike from Ortega just before halftime. Ortega added a 43-yard run early in the third quarter.
Nelson’s final score was a wild one. Alwin Crawford blocked a 29-yard field-goal attempt, and Nick Conn scooped the ball up and raced down the sideline. Centennial’s Curtis Amos tackled Conn at the Spartans’ 35 and ripped the ball loose. But Bobcat Skyler Reneau grabbed the fumble and raced 39 yards for the score.
