It took overtime Thursday night to separate Fort Worth Wyatt and Dallas Samuell, but the Chaparrals held the Spartans on fourth down for their first win this season, 33-27, at Pleasant Grove Stadium.

Wyatt (1-2) held Keith Hill a yard shy of a first down on fourth-and-3 at the 18-yard line. The Chaparrals took the lead on Javonte Adams’ 7-yard run with the first possession in overtime. Adams finished with 34 carries, 277 yards and three touchdowns.

The score was tied at 27 after regulation.

Adams and Hill were workhorses for their team. Hill drew Dallas Samuell within 20-19 on a 9-yard touchdown run with 2:49 left in the third. Hill finished with 13 carries, 144 yards and two touchdowns.

Adams quickly answered with a 64-yard touchdown run 22 seconds later.

Up 27-19, Wyatt failed to convert on fourth-and-1 at its own 24 with a fake punt. Samuell’s Bobby Whitaker found Kelvin Campbell wide open in the end zone for a 24-yard touchdown on the next play and tied the game on a 2-point conversion.

Wyatt led 20-13 at halftime with all 33 points scored in the second quarter. Adams’ 3-yard run gave the Chaparrals a 6-0 lead. Samuell (0-2) responded 13 seconds later on Hill’s 79-yard run.

Wyatt’s Michael Thomas completed a 30-yard TD pass to Desmon Martin on fourth down. Samuell took a 13-12 lead on Devante Casey’s 53-yard run and the first successful PAT. Thomas’ 1-yard run and 2-point conversion made it 20-13.
