I would like to note a few points regarding the Aug. 28 issue of the Grapevine Courier.

On Page 1, there was an article on Grapevine’s 2013-2014 budget. The article’s title is incorrect to suggest the property tax was reduced. The City Council voted to reduce the tax rate. Since property taxes are calculated by multiplying the tax rate against the appraised value of a property, because the appraised value had increased, by lowering the tax rate that alone does “not” equate to a lower out-of-pocket property tax paid by a property owner. In reality, our out-of-pocket property tax “may” increase depending upon how the county, the school district and the city will appraise a property.

Also, the Page 1 article on the DFW Connector project is incomplete to say the project was completed ahead of schedule. The project left out (seemingly due to shortage of budget) certain roads which, initially, were on the proposed schedule. To say a project is ahead of its schedule because it dropped proposed tasks is not truly being ahead of schedule (any more than saying it is under or on budget when it dropped scheduled tasks).
