High school football

• The Martin football team edged Skyline 27-24 on Friday to even its record at 1-1.

Rushing touchdowns were scored by Josh Watson, George Tucker and Nic Smith, while Kristian Levy caught a 73-yard touchdown pass from Eric Walker to seal the victory.

Martin travels to South Grand Prairie on Thursday in its last nondistrict game before the 3-5A opener against Arlington.

• The Colts are 1-0, having foregone Zero Week play, after defeating Flower Mound Marcus 35-14 on Friday.

New quarterback Michael Gray threw for three touchdowns. The team is scheduled to face Mansfield Timberview on Friday.

• Bowie is on a roll and looking for its third win in as many games Friday, visiting Skyline. The Vols defeated Mesquite 57-22 last week in a game that featured two first-quarter special teams touchdowns, one on an 85-yard kickoff return by Brican Crossley and another on a 95-yard return by Alundis Jones after a blocked Mesquite extra point attempt.

Bowie opens district at home against Weatherford the following week.

• Lamar evened its record at 1-1 after downing Irving Nimitz 20-3 on Friday. Shane Buechele connected with Jaries King on a 46-yard third-quarter touchdown, and Jamal Kemp had a rushing touchdown. Kicker Ryan Jacobs accounted for eight points on a pair of field goals and two extra points.

The Vikings face Keller Central on Friday before opening district against North Crowley.

• Sam Houston will try to right its season after suffering two consecutive blowouts. The Texans face Seguin on Friday before opening district against Fort Worth Paschal.

• Seguin will be looking to recover from a 53-26 defeat at the hands of Mesquite Poteet last week after opening the season with a win over Fort Worth Nolan. The Cougars open 15-4A competition the following week against Ennis.
