Authorities have released the name of the man who was fatally shot Friday afternoon at an apartment complex on the north side.

He was identified as Ben Williams, 25, according to the Tarrant County medical examiner’s office.

Police at first said the victim was a Hispanic man in his mid-20s, but the medical examiner concluded that he was African-American.

The shooting was reported about 5:15 p.m. in the 1800 block of Northwest 20th Street. The apartments are on a bluff overlooking Jacksboro Highway, not far from North Side High School.

People in the neighborhood reported hearing gunfire, but no witnesses were found soon after the shooting.

No arrests had been made as of Monday, police said.
